We’re pleased to announce several opportunities for summer jobs and paid internships for History students. Note that internships may be arranged for 3 hours of CSU elective credit. Oral History Program Internship

The Shaker Historical Society (SHS) in Shaker Heights, in partnership with CSU, plans to hire 1 History graduate or advanced undergraduate student for a paid summer internship. SHS has received an Ohio Humanities to launch an oral history program. The internship includes the opportunity for a CSU student to conduct, transcribe, and publish 8-10 oral history interviews and develop a digital exhibit based on these interviews. The internship requires 150 hours and carries a stipend. Contact Dr. Souther for more information. Application deadline: April 16.

In addition, Dr. Mark Souther plans to hire two History graduate students for summer positions in the Center for Public History + Digital Humanities. Historical Tour and Transcription Assistant (4525109)

Research and develop content for a digital tour and transcribe oral history interviews. (20 hours/week; 12 weeks – 240 hours total). Application deadline: April 15.

Historical Data Visualization Research Assistant (4525060)

Collect, transcribe, and code data from Cleveland City Directories in support of Dr. Souther’s Faculty Research and Development grant project “Visualizing Downtown Cleveland.” (20 hours/week; 10 weeks – 200 hours total). Application deadline: April 15.

Montessori Development Partners (MDP)

Another paid internship/job opportunity: Montessori Development Partners (MDP), a national organization based in Cleveland, seeks a graduate student to research the history of Montessori education in Cleveland, including producing a timeline and historical narrative. This is expected to be a phased project that may lead to later phases involving oral history and further interpretive digital content. Hours are not yet set. Contact Dr. Souther for information.
