The William H. Roberts History Scholarship supports an outstanding history major who is passionate about the study of history.

Mr. Roberts attended Cleveland Public Schools beginning in the 5th grade until he graduated from West Technical High School. He attended Cleveland State earning a Bachelor of Arts in History. As a first generation college student and graduate, he had to work part-time and summers to pay for his education. He then pursued his Master of Arts in Education by attending CSU evenings and weekends. He taught in the Cleveland Schools for 27 years. Mr. Roberts is honored to help CSU students achieve their dream.

The History Department is pleased to award Dylan Rutherford the 2021-2022 William H. Roberts History Scholarship!

Dylan is majoring in History, with a minor in Asian Studies.  She has studied Chinese and has taken classes in East Asian art and politics, along with Dr. Kang’s class on 20th century China.  She has a love of languages and other cultures and has been known to study languages in her free time.  Dylan hopes to teach overseas for a few years once she graduates, after which she intends to return to school to pursue an advanced degree.  Eventually she sees herself as undertaking a career in nursing but would like to engage in other passions, such as traveling, before settling down.

Prof Rose commented that Dylan is an excellent student, and she completed an outstanding presentation on “The War on Women” for HIS 299.  Her presentation included the use of Google maps to highlight locations around the world where women have suffered sexual violence in conjunction with wartime conditions.

Congratulations Dylan!

Bill and Dylan were interviewed for the 2021 CLASS Innerlink where you can read about the history and impact of this tremendous scholarship in their own words.
